Parent ExpectationsThe Shevchenko Dance Ensemble’s very existence and management depends on parents input and cooperation. Parents are strongly encouraged to become actively involved by volunteering their skills, talents and efforts. Fundraising: Fundraising is an integral component of the Shevchenko Dance Ensemble’s annual budget. The group has traditionally done the following fundraising throughout the year, Mom’s Pantry, Malanka, Trivia Night, Turkey Bingo, raffles (at Bingo and Spring Concert), occasional other raffles (such as 50/50’s). Without these fundraising endeavours the annual fees would have to be increased grammatically therefore it is crucial that parents take an active role in making these ‘activities’ a success. Volunteering: Group Rep(s): Parent representative from each group (group rep) that would perform that following tasks: · Act as a liaison between the other members of the group and executive and costume committee · When needed, consult with other group members to check availability of dancers for performances/competitions · Assists costuming committee with distribution and collection of costumes for assigned group · Instruct and assists parents on costuming (ie. dressing for performances), makeup and hair. Committee/Events: Parents are needed to sit on planning committees and/or help with the execution of the following events: · Bingo Canteen – approx. 1 Friday night shift per family is expected for 2023-2024 season · Turkey Bingo · Malanka – participation of all parents required · Spring Concert – participation of all parents required · Any other activities/events as they arise Donations: The following is required from each family: · Donation of dainties for Turkey Bingo (amount determined by number of dance families in the club) · Donation of raffle price for either Turkey Bingo or Concert General Expectations: · Parents are expected to treat other parents, the instructor and the executive with respect (refer to parent code of conduct below) · Parents are to encourage dancers to practice at home. · Parents are not to go directly to the instructor with issues. All issues (ie. with instructor, class, dancers, parents etc.) shall be addressed to the president for resolution or possibly discussed at the general meetings. · Parents are encouraged to attend meeting that are held regularly throughout the dance season and to keep abreast of regular group conversations (ie. via email). Parent Code of Conduct: The Shevchenko Dance Ensemble expects families (ie. Parents, siblings etc.) of each dancer to maintain an appropriate level of conduct during group activities such as practices, meetings, performances, and fundraising events. Behaviour/actions of family members should not cause ‘problems’ within the group or shine a negative light on the group as a whole. The board will take a stepped approach to discipline depending on the level of misconduct. Misbehaviours include yelling, inappropriate language, aggressive arguing and/or other disruptive behaviour. Basic steps of corrective action will be similar as to what is noted below (each case may be dealt with slightly differently depending upon situation): 1. All inappropriate behaviour will be brought to the attention of the president, whom if need be, will then inform the other members of the executive. At this point all persons involved will be contacted to gather details of this incident. The executive will discuss the matter amongst them and then contact each person(s) involved in the incident and give a warning and reminder to offenders that this behaviour is not tolerated. 2. If another incident occurs with the same person(s), he or she will be suspended from practices and other group functions for a period of time. Dancer can still attend classes and/or functions. 3. If inappropriate behaviour still continues, the family may be asked leave the group indefinitely. No fees will be refunded. The executive will make every effort to work with the parties involved to find solutions to problems whenever possible. However the executive is not going to try and resolve ‘outside’ issues.
